Welcome

Dear Participants in the 12th IASL Congress, Dear Friends in Sport,

The 12th IASL Congress, organized by the Olympic Committee of Slovenia – Association of Sports Federations (OCS-ASF) upon the initiative of the International Association of Sports Law (IASL) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 23 to 25 November 2006, has been successfully concluded. According to the numerous expressions of appreciation of those present and the media response in Slovenia, the Congress in which 76 representatives from 21 countries participated, was a great success.
Surely, your personal expert contribution, be it as a moderator, a presenter, or a participant, actively involved in the Congress and accompanying events of the Congress, contributed considerably to the success of the Congress. I believe, we have all appreciated the excellent opportunity to acquire valuable information, share knowledge and personal experience with world experts on sports law. May I take this opportunity to express on behalf of the IASL and the OCS-ASF, and on my own behalf, my appreciation to you for your input and personal support.

I hope that during the accompanying events of the Congress, we succeeded in presenting to you some of the most interesting sights of our capital Ljubljana and the diverse land of our country, its mountains, forests, lakes and discovering our national cuisine, wines and culture and, hopefully, persuade you to come again to savor the rest of Slovenia. We visited the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana and the National Museum, where a reception was given in the honor of the Congress participants by Mr. Zoran Jankovič, Mayor of the City of Ljubljana. On this occasion, a Museum’s permanent exhibition allowed our honored guests to a glimpse over the history of the country and its capital, from the Roman times to the recognition of Slovenia as an independent country in 1991, and, finally, a member of the EU in 1004 – over a country and the capital that, as the IASL President, James A.R. Nafziger exclaimed at the end, “not only Slovenia has everything, Ljubljana has everything as well!”

Once again thank you for coming, thank you for good work and co-operation and welcome to Slovenia also in the future!

With best Olympic greetings,

Janez Kocijančič
President of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia – Association of Sports Federations
Member of the IASL Board of Directors:
